Why? A great start to open water swimming. This is a great opportuinity to tune up your open water swimming for triathlon races or for those swimming experts! For many the swim is the most intimidating part of the triathlon, this will help you ease into triathlon season without worrying about the bike or run. If you're training for an Ironman or Half Ironman or Muskoka in June this is an early season MUST!

What Else? The water temperature is between 15-17 degrees and folks do swim without a wetsuit but in my opinion wetsuits are recommended. Don't have one? Runner's life has wetsuit rentals that can be rented for race day!

While You're There... There is also a group of folks riding and running after the event. There will be a 75k, 97k and a 137k ride option followed by a quick run. This is not part of the event but there are a lot of folks taking part so it's worth mentioning. The roads around Stoney Lake are beautiful and quiet so it's ideal for anyone looking to get in Half/Ironman training or just a fun workout. For details on that click HERE

Massage & Stretching Kevin Pinheiro, RMT will be on site before and after the event to assist you in stretching and/or massage therapy.

Re: 2009 Zoot Open Water Swim
Just swam in Sandy Lake this morning (Wed) and wow is all I can say! Crystal clear once you get past the first 100m from the shore. The water was very very warm. Not a single shiver even after 1 hour of swimming and getting dressed!

There was not a ripple on the water that wasn't made by us either!

Forecast is for 5km/hr winds which is pretty much nothing, so it should be like glass as well this weekend.

Sean Bechtel is also bringing his friend and fellow Pro Tyler Lord. Tyler finished 24th overall at the 70.3 Ironman World Championships!

Both of these fellows will be competing in the 2k portion of the Zoot Open Water Swim and then leading the training session (100k ride/20-30min run) around Stoney Lake. All are invited to participate and pick their brains!

I would like to note that I assume they switched from the 4k Swim to the 2k because they are ducking me

No worries, Mike. Dave grabbed it and we brought it back home to Peterborough. It's drying in the basement at the store as I type.

Great job at the race!
