I have to admit I hope people don’t read my blog right after Rorys’. His posts are so well written and symbolic….very well done. Maybe his will inspire me to put a little more thought into these.

So last week was a very success training week for me. I finished off the week with doing weights on Thursday and then headed out for a run Friday afternoon with Lou. We ran 9.5K in about an hour, not the fastest pace but I was happy with this run because I ran 3 days last week and my ankle didn’t even hurt.

This week started off to a rough start. My dog has decided to chew her hip to give herself a hot spot. So I decided to not go on the pub run and stay home with the dog (I wanted to keep an eye on her). Since I was at home I thought I would jump on my trainer. This was probably the best thing for me. I quickly realized that my legs weren’t use to cycling, they were dead. I rode for about 40 minutes and my muscles were spent. Once again the factor of not cycling for the past 3 months was taking a toll on me. I am glad that I stayed home and cycled….huge eye opener. I better get on my trainer a couple times a week.

Today was a little more successful for me, I swam right after work (the Y is so quiet in the pool at this time). I didn’t have my watch so I couldn’t do splits, so I thought I would swim 1 K straight. I was trying to keep good technique with long and smooth strokes. It was feeling quite good, not to hard. I was wondering while swimming if I should be pushing myself more. But I just wanted to make sure I swam good the whole time. When I finished my 40th lap I was happy to see when I looked up at the clock that it took me 23-24 minutes…..hard to pick the exact number on the clock. Never the less….super happy with that swim time.

So far I have had a bad workout and a good one. But most importantly I am well on my way to getting SUPER TRI FIT!!

So I am happy with my training, I am into my 3rd week of training steady and I am noticing a huge difference already. I am so glad for this. I have to admit I was very discouraged when I got back into it; it was just so hard.

Last week was a pretty successful week….expect Tuesday and Wednesday I had to miss my workout, family stuff. Here is a summary of what I did;

Monday I did my core class and then the pub run with a little extra, not the whole Marsdale loop, just a bit extra to give me a run of 8K…time of 51 minutes. Thursday I did a swim workout right after work. This is a great time to hit the pool, not that busy. I swam a total of 1K with a 750 m time of 18:35. I think that might be back to my pace I was at in the summer. WAHOO!! Friday afternoon when I was done work so beautiful out so I thought I would go for a run, with my dog. Well on the drive out she decided to be sick in my car. Lets just say my car smells awful and she really wasn’t up for running. We did a total of 3K, with some walking. I was just thankful she made it back to the car, I can’t carry a 100 pound dog. Friday night looked better…..WE ALMOST WON IN HOCKEY!!! Yep we only lost by one goal. Dave got 3 points that night, I really need to pick up my game or at least not let him win the points race….HAHA!!

This week workouts are going great. Monday I ran right after work for 6.5K in 40 minutes. I then did the core class, man I better get some sexy abs after these classes. Tuesday I had off work so I swam in the morning with Nick. We did 5 X 100 m hard. I haven’t done this in awhile, but it is the only way I am going to get quicker. My times for this were; 2:12, 2:15, 2:11, 2:10 and 2:10. I was happy with this, but surprised in how much Nicks swimming has come along, he did awesome. Wednesday I did a run with Mike, I think we did about 8K (I will have to look into this further). But the run was awesome, I can’t believe how much easier it has gotten in just a couple of weeks. Our time was 45:43. We finished in enough time for me to make it to the Y for my core control class. I was sad to find out the instructor was leaving ☹ I enjoyed his classes, I really felt like I worked hard after them.

Well I am glad to say things are going well in the training world for me. Oh ya before I forget, my new goal:

GET SUPER TRI FIT by next Spring!!

Last week was a successful week in sticking to my training plan.

Monday – Core Control Class and Pub Run. The pub run posed some challenges, but finished it in 46 minutes. Not too bad for just getting back into it.

Tuesday – Swam a total of 1 K….timed myself for 500 meters and that took 12 minutes and a bit. I was swimming a bit faster before, but I have to keep reminding myself I sat on my butt for way too long.

Wednesday – Core Control Class and then a run with Dave and Nick. We ran to Jackson Park (without head lights, stupid us). I was hoping for an 8 K run and it turned out to be a 10 K run. I didn’t mind though, my run felt amazing….I actually was excited to run again. The 10 K run took me 1 hour and 3 minutes….luckily Dave was on a taper week so he didn’t mind going slow.

Thursday – Weights and abs for 45 minutes. I was hoping to bike or swim that day as well, but I couldn’t fit it in. But I know for this week I am going to ride my bike before my weights.

Friday – I was suppose to run, but instead I played hockey in the afternoon for an hour and then handed out Halloween candy, WHERE WERE ALL THE KIDS? I then went and played hockey that evening….figured two hockey games in a day was more than enough exercise.

Saturday/Sunday – Didn’t do any physical activity…..I was hoping to do something on Saturday but that didn’t work out.

So my first week back, turned out to be a pretty productive one. I am looking forward to the next few weeks. I am hoping if I keep with my schedule I’ve made for myself, I will get back into decent shape quickly. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Sorry I wrote this post a few weeks ago…..didn’t get it posted till today, a little out of date.

I have finally got running again

This week I was bound and bend to make it happen, and so far so good. I ran Monday at the pub run. It felt like my first pub run a year ago, painful. It is amazing how quickly you can get out of shape and not even realize it. Oh well, I just keep saying ‘it will come back quickly.’ It was nice to be out and see everyone again. This time at the run I brought a new running partner….my dog. Yep, Milla is going to start running at least once a week with me. I look at her compared to the other dogs that are there and I feel she feels the same way I did when I first went, ‘everyone is long and lean, more a runners built. I am not a runners built, stocky.’ She did very well though; she finished her first pub run, with a lot of encouraging in the last 2 K.

My second run for the week was Wednesday. I went out with Dave, Mike and Nick. We did an 8K run out in Jackson Park. It wasn’t the nicest day for a run, raining and all. But I am glad I got out and ran along the trail and saw all the beautiful fall colours, what a beautiful time to run. I started out with all the guys but the affects of not running for 3 months was catching up to me, I couldn’t keep that pace with them. So I fell back, as did Nick and we ran the rest of the way home a little slower.

My ankle is holding up all right this week, a little painful but nothing too crazy. The only way I can really describe it is when I am running I am aware I have an ankle. It has been pretty swollen from the runs, but I think that will eventually go away.

My third run for the week is supposed to be on Fridays….not this Friday though. I am heading off on a road trip out East. Not the best week to pick my come back week, seeing how I will be on holidays next week. But I figure I had to start somewhere and I can always go for a bit of a run when I am out East. The main focus of my trip is to do a lot of hiking and get some great photos….so here’s hoping for some beautiful fall colours.

Hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgivings. Eat lots of turkey for me!!

Well, it sure has been a long time I have written in my blog. I really haven’t been up to much. Basically I have been doing a lot of nothing (except beating Dave in points in Friday night hockey) and getting more and more out of shape

My ankle is getting a lot better, finding I am able to run a little longer now without much pain or swelling when I am done. I am trying very hard to get back into a routine but man I seem to be failing every week at it. I was sure this up and coming week was going to be the one, but now I sit back and look at what I have to do and I am thinking this might not be the week at all.

I was going to try and go to the workouts with the group, not participate in the workouts, but at least run. I think this will be a great way for me to get into it again, and not push my ankle too much. Instead I might have to do my runs myself and look to next week to get back into the group. But I do know I will be going to the pub run on Monday!! No better way to get back into the running scene.

See everyone tomorrow at the pub run…..I am going to be slow!

I am now allowed to run 10 minutes a day

Today at physio I ran on the treadmill for 6 minutes and then did some side to side movements on my ankle. Aaron said I was good to go. I can run everyday this week for 10 minutes a day, and then I can start to increase my time my 10%. Amazing all the work I did to get my running to a decent level, and now I am less than where I started. Oh well, the joys of an injury. I really am keeping my fingers crossed that things will come back quickly.

So tomorrow I am going to go to the gym, do some weights, maybe a quick swim (might try and get up in the morning for that) and then do my 10 minute run. One good thing about only running such a short time, I am going to start bringing my dog….get her some base miles in. Then maybe she will be able to do some runs with me this year…..I am not holding my breath for that, but wishing. I would love to have her run with me….two reasons; one I don’t have to feel bad that I am leaving her at home while I go work out, and two I would love her company.
Well I will keep everyone updated with my slow come back.

Good Luck to everyone doing Orillia this weekend, I will be there to cheer everyone on!

My ankle is beginning to feel almost normal again. I have been going to physio twice a week now for 4 weeks. Aaron (physio guy) tells me that I am doing really well and pushing my ankle to get better. Next week I only have to go once, and I get to try and run on the treadmill. I was told not to try and start running until then. If I do all right on that, I am allowed to start running the week of the 18th. YAY!!

I was tempted to see if anyone needed a swimmer or biker for the Orillia tri, but under strict orders I was told and asked (by Aaron) to please not do any triathlons until the end of the month. So I should be able to do Wasaga come September. I can’t wait. I am sure I will not be in the best shape for it…..coming up on 5 weeks of only do minimal workouts has really made me feel out of shape. Right now I am doing some weight training, under the guidance of the summer student (Tyler) and swimming. Yesterday I swam for 25 minutes straight, and I felt good.

I am hoping that once I start training hard again everything will come back quickly. I would hate for all my hard work to go to waste. I guess only time will tell. One thing will be I can train September until the beginning of tri season…..already took some time off

Maybe hurting my ankle was the best thing for me…..it lets me practice up on my weakest link to the tri, swimming.

Today was my first day back at work and my ankle was feeling having sock on it and being in a shoe. Damn labs and having to wear shoes. My ankle held through pretty good though, not too swollen at the end of the day.

Tonight I went swimming and did a bit of a workout. Lately my swims have just been swimming constant steady laps and not really caring what my time was. I was just happy to be doing something. The last few days I have been able to get a lot of movement back in my ankle, I decided it was time to push it a bit. So I started in the pool for a bit of a warm up, I swam for 500m in 10-11 minutes. I then decided to take a bit of a break and finished off with 5X100m. My first few times were 1:05 and then my last two were 1:08. I felt like I was going quicker, but really I think my form needs a bit of a refresher. I was hoping that I would be swimming my times that I was before (about 55 seconds or a minute). But I am finding I can not kick as hard I would like, and I think my fitness has gone down….amazing what 3 weeks does to you.

Yesterday I went out and watched the Chemong tri and took some photos. I have to admit yesterday was the first day I actually felt really pissed that I had hurt myself. Every since I hurt myself I was upset that couldn’t train and race, but being at the first tri since my injury it really set in I guess. Standing there seeing everyone working hard and enjoying themselves made me wish I was out there doing it. Oh well, next year!!

Well I hope everyones seasons are going well for them, and good luck in your races.

Well it has been about a week since I last wrote….things are looking up for me.

I have been following all doctors orders for a solid recovery on my ankle. I am now able to walk around the house without my crutches. I can ride my bike on its trainer for 10 minutes now, with a little bit of tension. It is amazing how 10 minutes on my bike feels like nothing, but my ankle is sure glad it is only that long.

I went swimming the other day, kinda embarrassing I’d say. I had to go out to the pool deck at the Y with my crutches and then limp over to the pool. I swam 500 meters straight in about 15:40…..a fair bit slower than normal for me. I found if I kicked my right foot too hard then it hurt, so I just kicked primarily with my left foot. I really wasn’t too concerned about my time though, I was just happy to get out and swim again. Looks like I will be doing a lot of swimming for the next while, really it is the only thing I can do half decent.

I can pretty much treat my ankle like normal now, I just have to respect pain and swelling. Tomorrow I go back to physio, we will see if I am allowed to walk without my crutches all the time. My dog really isn’t enjoying her walks to much with me lately, so slow and she keeps banging into my crutches.

Well that is really all I have been up to, hope soon I will be able to add a little more exciting things.

Good luck to everyone doing Chemong this weekend, I will be there to cheer people on.

Today I went to physiotherapy and got my ankle looked at. The physiotherapist says that my calcaneofibular ligament has been partially torn. I was told that in 6 weeks it will feel like 100% and I will be back to normal. I was so glad to hear that, at least I didn’t do too much permeant damage.

I was also happy to find out that I can swim whenever I want. So I am going to go swim tomorrow and see how it feels. I will only need to help getting in and out of the pool, seeing how I can only put 10-20% of my weight on my ankle. That is going to increase daily though, with the help of my stretching exercises. Our goal is to have me walking by July 28th without crutches. I will still be limping, but I won’t have crutches to assist me anymore.

So today was a good day….time to get thinking about doing a tri at the end of the season.
